Anti Aging Wrinkle Creams
If you go into any pharmacy you’ll see plenty of anti aging wrinkle creams with a wide variety of price tags. From cheap under $10 products to those costing $100 or more. Do any of them work? Are the expensive creams better than the cheaper ones? The best way to distinguish those that will smooth out your face, at least to a certain extent, and those that will do nothing is to look at the ingredient list. There are some ingredients that have a clinically proven track record at smoothing out the lines and wrinkles we all get as we get older. The ingredients detailed below are the only ones that will actually do some good and good wrinkle products will contain them. Some ingredients that are included in collagen creams will do no good at all as they are such large molecules that they will not penetrate the skin so cannot have any effect on your wrinkles.
One ingredient that has been shown in many clinical trials is retinol and this is the one we would recommend you to look for. This vitamin A derivative is a small molecule that will easily penetrate the skin and can reach deep into the dermis where it can start to work on those lines. It is an anti-oxidant that can reduce the number of free radicals which cause damage by breaking down collagen and elastin, the substances responsible for the elasticity of the skin and support. Retinol penetrates to the layer that contains these important skin structures and, not only prevents further damage, but can start to repair the damage already caused.
Over the counter retinol products containing retinol have lower levels than prescription preparations and will take longer to be effective. You should also avoid their use if your are pregnant or could become pregnant as they can cause birth defects.
So you should be looking for a retinol containing product but some other ingredients can help to boost the effects of retinol. Coenzyme Q is also an anti-oxidant and can help retinol do its work. It is also very good for protecting the skin from sun damage.
Another useful ingredient is a small molecule with copper bonded to peptides, a copper peptide. These have been used for a great many years for wound treatment and make a useful addition to the ingredients mentioned above. They are great for healing damaged tissues so can repair the damage caused to collagen and elastin from environmental factors, such as the sun, pollution or smoking or simply from getting older.
All of the above ingredients will have some effect on the appearance of your fine lines and wrinkles but it will take some time. A few months at a minimum and if you stop using your anti aging wrinkle cream your wrinkles will slowly return.
